THE arrogance and selfishness displayed by GP Taylor takes my breath away (The Yorkshire Post, May 20).

Writer and broadcaster, he could live anywhere but he lives in Whitby. Why? Because it is a lovely place to live. Others are not so fortunate and these are the people who visit places like Whitby and contribute significantly to the economy.

Mr Taylor may not give a fig for the economics but the tourist industry will die unless the lockdown is eased.

As a lifelong member of the North York Moors Railway, one of the area’s biggest attractions and employers, we are fighting for survival at this very moment.

From: Sue Hawley, Bridlington.

I MUST agree with the Mayor of Bridlington when he warned people not to visit the town.

We are not ready to receive visitors as the works on the promenade are nowhere near complete. No gardening work has been done and the streets have not been swept/cleaned.

Surely lockdown, with hardly any people about, was an ideal time to smarten up the town?

Given that the Mayor does not want visitors to come, why then was the car park in Sewerby opened to visitors just last week?
