Why Breivik has me shuddering

From: Nino Hoblyn, North Street, Caistor, Lincolnshire.

HERE on the very front page of your newspaper (Yorkshire Post, April 17) was a photograph of a man who has cold-bloodedly murdered 77 people in bomb and gun attacks in Norway.

What I find most strange as I look into the face of Anders Breivik is a million miles away from abhorrent or an inner disgust at that hypnotic stare he gives for the camera.

Because what I see is a man who looks just like any other human being – and it’s that thought that makes me shudder to the very core of my bones.

Speedy inquiry

From: John Wilson, Wilsons Solicitors, New Road Side, Horsforth, Leeds.

THE Titanic sank on April 14, 1912. The public inquiry about it started on May 2, 1912 (ie 18 days later). It heard from 96 witnesses, and then published its report on June 30, 1912 (77 days after the disaster). A hundred years on, it now takes those in authority over us longer than that to inquire over what to have for breakfast.

The conclusion of the inquiry was that the ship was sunk by an iceberg. This just goes to show that complicated expensive inquiries that end up stating the glaringly obvious are not a recent phenomenon.

Legal bill query

Barristers are not known for their charitable nature – working for free – and I just wondered who is footing the bill for the legal team of Abu Qatada? A man so inhumane towards others (non Islamic radicals), yet using his human rights to avoid being treated in a way he condones and supports.
