Why Harrogate Quakers will be wearing white poppies for Remembrance

The Quakers mark the remembrance season with white poppies each year.

AT Remembrance 2020, Harrogate Quaker Meeting will again be remembering all victims of war, challenging the growth of militarism and helping to build a culture of peace.

To symbolise this, we will be wearing white poppies and offering people in Harrogate the opportunity to pick up a white poppy from in front of the Quaker Meeting House.

The white poppy commemorates all victims of war, both civilian and military, on all sides of conflict.

Here’s when poppy remembrance season starts - and why we wear them

By encouraging us to tackle the causes of war such as inequality and the arms trade, the white poppy helps build a culture of peace.

Harrogate Quakers will be laying a wreath of white poppies at the Cenotaph at 2pm on Sunday, November 8.

We will be gathering, in masks, for a half hour socially distanced silent vigil and we welcome anyone who would like to join us.
