Why must we ring Manila for an extra pinta?

REGARDING two letters (Yorkshire Post, October 3) about foreign call centres, in order to cancel or alter our milk deliveries from Dairy Crest in Hull we must now telephone Manila, in the Philippines!

Of course, it is wrong to export jobs, but what is the reason? Why do UK manufacturers have products made abroad for the UK market? Why are most goods on sale here imported?

Is it due to over-regulation by successive governments, expensive, suffocating employment legislation, high business taxation or the unsupportive and disruptive attitude of the trade unions?

Everything that happens in this country is paid for by the private sector and it’s no use politicians and unions calling for growth unless favourable conditions are created for the private sector to thrive.

HAVING recently read about Morrisons supermarket making local people redundant and moving their jobs to India, we felt it our duty to protest at this injustice.

We have spent an average of around £60 per week for many years at Morrisons, but will not be spending time or money there in the future. We hope other people find the actions of Morrisons unforgiveable, especially in this time of recession.
