There is much talk of saving our high streets and we are encouraged to go back to shopping there. However, this is not an option for everyone and as an 89-year-old with mobility problems I am afraid I can do little if anything to ‘save our high street’.

I have shopped online for several years and recent purchases show how good this has been from an economic and convenience point of view.

Recent purchases include a new bed for the dog which local stores did not stock; an electrical item which was £15 cheaper online; a box of fresh vegetables from a local farm; and apples from a fruit farm which sells 15 varieties – all grown in Essex.

I am afraid that using the high street, which involves parking problems, steps, and uneven pavements, is really not an option compared with the convenience and economic benefits of shopping online.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.

Almost certainly you are here because you value the quality and the integrity of the journalism produced by The Yorkshire Post’s journalists - almost all of which live alongside you in Yorkshire, spending the wages they earn with Yorkshire businesses - who last year took this title to the industry watchdog’s Most Trusted Newspaper in Britain accolade.
