Women can be aggressors too

REGARDING laws allowing women to obtain information from the police about potentially violent partners. Will it apply to men asking whether their new girlfriend has any history of making false accusations of rape or other sexual offences?

I ask this not only in the interests of equality but because, prior to retirement, I was a police officer for 30 years and came across many domestic situations where the violent aggressor in the partnership was the female.

Badger baiter gets taste of fear

I HAVE read the report (Yorkshire Post, March 5) concerning the individuals convicted in the Howsham badger baiting case last year.

Apparently they have only served a fraction of their sentence and now Mr W Anderson is complaining that he is being harassed and intimidated. Now he knows how the badgers felt (except he won’t have had his jaw or leg broken so that he can’t fight back).

A happy man with a fine pint

I WILL treasure the photo of the actor Christopher Timothy, pint in hand in a Yorkshire pub (Yorkshire Post, March 10) and a look on his face that told you he was sampling one of Yorkshire’s best.

And may that ball keep rolling for evermore because it doesn’t get any better than the taste of Yorkshire’s Black Sheep Brewery.

Wrong phrase

YOU report that Jimmy Greaves declares himself “fit as a butcher’s dog” (Yorkshire Post, February 27). He would be a darn sight fitter if he used the correct phrase “fit as a butcher’s pup”.
