‘Yorkshire Posh’ a talking point

Your correspondent Brian Sheridan (Yorkshire Post, February 9) is absolutely “spot on” in his assumption that Sir Len Hutton tempered his Pudsey speech. In fact, he adopted that mode of speech referred to by people in the know as “Yorkshire Posh”. I remember meeting him several times in the cocktail bar of the Dorchester Hotel in London, and arrived at the same conclusion some 50 years ago.

Public shame

COMMONS Leader Sir George Young had me reaching for the sick-bag with his pathetic bleating about how unfair the new expenses system is to MPs (Yorkshire Post, February 4). In the public’s mind, MPs must run bankers a very close second as the most loathsome people on this planet.

Bonus culture

Can someone please explain to me why large bonuses are paid to bankers and others?

If the company does not do well in a particular year, then these people should have their salary reduced in the following year. If the company performs well, then the full salary can be paid. There should be no such thing as a “bonus”.
