Yorkshire seen in a bad light

THE BBC’s South Riding did not really get off the blocks, did it? It began with a promising start which fizzled to nothing. I could not bear the dark gloomy rooms or the ugly bleak scenes of the outdoors and the depressing coastline.

Yorkshire was portrayed in a very negative way when of course any northerner knows it is God’s Own Country. Let us hope we can watch some programmes that are a little more cheerful.

Hit RBS chiefs with rugby bill

As a former player of rugby union football, I remain an avid supporter of the game but am also less enthusiastically a customer of the discredited Royal Bank of Scotland.

As such, I view the array of posters advertising RBS sponsorship of the Six Nations Championship with mixed feelings.

While welcoming in principle such sponsorship, I strongly believe that the funding involved should be deducted from the huge bonuses awarded to RBS top management rather than taken from the pockets of customers.

If a job’s worth doing...

WITH regard to the issue of voluntary work, if a job is so vital to do, then pay a decent living wage. If not, don’t do it and if these jobs are so important, then others are denied earning a living by volunteers,

One is told never to volunteer, as those in charge of the volunteers get decent salaries.

Time for Larry to take ermine

GIVEN reports that the new Downing Street cat, Larry, seems to be failing in its duties and is inclined to fall asleep, may I suggest it would be better employed in the House of Lords?
