WELL, I think I’ve finally heard it all. You reported the news that a bunch of do-gooders, doctors, feminist Corbynistas, PC police etc are campaigning to have tackling removed from the game of rugby (The Yorkshire Post, March 2).

It reminded me of the morning after a play of mine was broadcast on TV when the wife of the local butcher after complimenting me on the piece asked in all seriousness: “I was wondering James – do you do the dialogue as well?” I managed to stop myself from saying in equal seriousness: “No I just tell them where to stand and leave the talking to them”. On a more positive note, might I suggest that rugby players be encased in several layers of bubble-wrap and wear boxing gloves and carpet slippers when playing?

From: David Morgan, Leyburn.

I THINK rugby is far more safety conscious now.

My biggest concern is the example set by senior players, whether it be Owen Farrell’s insolence or Mike Brown kicking a prone player in the face during a ruck.

Playing sport can never be risk-free.

However this does not excuse the deteriorating behaviour of the England team.
