THE public vote of confidence in Doncaster Sheffield Airport, and the quality of its customer service, is far more significant than today’s Which? consumer report.
Now the top-performing small airport when it comes to meeting the requirements of passengers, it will help bosses to reassure investors about the merit – and viability – of an ambitious expansion plan which exploits its location and proximity to the East Coast Main Line.
Already one of the largest private sector-led infrastructure projects in the North, it will take-off if the Government realises the wider benefits to the regional, and national economy, if a rail link to the airport is built. Not only will this make it possible for passengers from further afield to use the airport, but it will turbo-charge plans to create thousands of new jobs on vast swathes of land surrounding the airport. It just needs Chancellor Philip Hammond, and other senior Ministers, to give the project lift-off.
