Opportunity knocks for people in search of job

PEOPLE who are struggling to find a job will be able to access new services at an "opportunity centre" which has been opened by a council-funded recovery scheme.

Success Doncaster, which aims to boost employment and business opportunities in the town, has opened the advice point in Doncaster Market's Corn Exchange.

Workers at the centre said they are aiming to provide a "hub" for residents to gain help and advice on any aspect of helping to improve their employment position.

It is hoped opportunity centres will be set up in several communities in the borough by the Success Doncaster programme which is building links with employers.

They will play a "key role" in supporting residents in their search for work, improve their skills through training and education and help "break down barriers" that are stopping people progressing.

Doncaster Council's director of neighbourhoods and communities, Jane Miller said: "This new facility has been set up specifically to support local people into employment. It will provide a wide range of related assistance and support in respect of people's working lives.

"The service has been designed for local people and I would very much like to encourage Doncaster residents who might need support and advice in connection with employment to make contact with the centre."

Mrs Miller said services such as advice and support on issues like benefit allowances, debt counselling and help in finding suitable employment would all be available in one place.

The Opportunity Centre is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. For further information or to make an appointment with an adviser call 01302 734782 or visit www.successdoncaster.co.uk
