Organic hair care advert 'misleading'

An advert for Simply Organic hair products has been banned after the company failed to provide anything to back the name.

The magazine ad was headlined "Naturally organic... simply" and included a logo which stated "Simply organic".

Herb UK challenged the claims because they implied the products met an independent organic standard.

Simply Organic said the name was that of the US-based company which designed, manufactured and sent the products to distributors worldwide.

The Advertising Standards Authority said readers would believe it meant that the product met an independently-defined organic standard. However there was no UK standard for organic hair products.

Virgin Media also misled consumers with its high-definition offer which promised customers a one-off set-up charge of 49, and claimed: "With Virgin Media you get amazing HD for no extra monthly fee."

Sky and other complainants said the ad failed to point out there was a 35 installation fee, that a monthly fee was charged and that existing customers could have to upgrade.
