Outcry over home plans for carpet store

RESIDENTS and a town council are objecting to plans to convert space above a carpet shop, in a town north of Sheffield, into three new homes which would together sleep 17 people.

Plans have been submitted to Sheffield Council which would see the upper floors of Stocksbridge Furnishing in Manchester Road, Stocksbridge, into the three houses of multiple occupancy.

However, 21 members of the public have objected to the proposals, while opposition has also come from individual councillors and Stocksbridge Town Council.

Coun Philip Wood said the development would “take the properties beyond their original occupancy, affecting both amenities and services”.

City planners, though, have recommended the planning application be granted consent at a committee meeting to be held on Tuesday next week.
