PHOTOGRAPHS which showcase the best of the natural world will feature in an outdoor exhibition which opens next week in a busy city centre shopping street.

Sheffield is the first city in the north of England to host the Natural History Museum Wild Planet show, which features 80 images by some of the world’s best photographers.

Each picture has been submitted for the Wildlife Photographer of Year competition, which is run jointly by the London-based museum and BBC Wildlife magazine.

All of the photographs will be on display in The Moor, Sheffield from Wednesday until March 27 next year before they are shown elsewhere in the country and the world.

Dr Michael Dixon, director of the National History Museum, said: “Wild Planet celebrates stunning images from past years of the highly successful annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. The contest is an international leader in providing new insights into the natural world.

“Through Wild Planet the museum aims to give new audiences the opportunity to be inspired by these dramatic images of nature and to take individual responsibility to care for the future of our planet.”

Entry to the exhibition will be free and there will be a Wild Planet shop, which will sell merchandise and memorabilia associated with the show.
