Over seven years for man in raid on jeweller’s

A Leeds man is starting a seven-and-a-half year prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of involvement in a sledgehammer raid at an Ilkley jeweller’s shop last year.

Darren Pallas, 33, was described by a judge as a career criminal who part in the attempted 
robbery at Rolex watch specialists Lister Horsfall in Brook Street.

When staff who activated 
security shutters the two men who had tried to smash a door and window fled in a stolen 
BMW but Pallas, of Cross Green Lane, Cross Green, was linked to the crime by DNA which was found on a glove in the abandoned vehicle.

His trial at Bradford Crown Court heard had already been sentenced to five years in jail for his part in another jewellery shop robbery in Rugby, Warwickshire, in September 2012.

Pallas denied the attempted robbery in Ilkley, but was found guilty.

His seven-and-a-half year sentence would run concurrently with the five-year term he had already received.
