Pair who raped girl from care home jailed

Hussnain Ahmed, 24, and Omar Ali, 24, persuaded their victim, who was a stranger to them, to get into their car after they spotted her in a drunken state outside a care home in Manchester.

When she pleaded to return home they took her mobile phone off her, drove to a secluded countryside spot in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, and raped her on June 28 last year.

Police said the teenager fell unconscious inside the vehicle because of drink and found herself undressed when she awoke.

The defendants dropped her off some distance from the care home and police were called when she later told staff she did not feel well.

Several days later Ali gave the victim her phone back in a chance meeting and the perpetrators were traced as their numbers had been stored in the phone.

Ahmed and Ali, both of Longsight, Manchester, had denied rape in their trial at the city’s crown court.

Following sentencing, investigating officer Detective Sergeant Adam Cronshaw said: “Not only did Ali and Ahmed rape a defenceless young girl but it is clear they exploited the fact she was from a care home, intoxicated and vulnerable.

“It is not known why Ali gave her phone back but clearly they did not expect the girl to find the courage to tell police she had been raped.

“During interviews at the police station, Ahmed initially denied any sexual contact with the young girl whilst Ali made ‘no comment’. Later, when confronted with the forensic evidence Ahmed changed his story, attempting to claim she consented.

“I hope this case demonstrates that Greater Manchester Police takes the issues of rape and sexual exploitation of children extremely seriously.

“Just because a child does not live with their parents, it does not mean no one cares and it does not mean they should be subject to the sort of sexual exploitation by the likes of Ali and Ahmed just for their own gratification.”
