Palace honour for soldier who died in road accident

the parents of a Yorkshire soldier who was killed in a road accident the day after he left a rehabilitation centre where he was treated for injuries suffered in Afghanistan yesterday received his Queen's Gallantry Medal at Buckingham Palace.

Despite being injured in a bomb blast last November, Rifleman Ross Robinson, of Leeds, continued working to clear a safe route out of the area and help evacuate a colleague.

The 21-year-old suffered a serious back injury and returned to the UK for treatment but was killed the day after he left the unit in May.

Steven and Angela Robinson described the day as "bittersweet" after receiving the award from the Queen.

Mr Robinson added: "He did it without thinking of himself and thought about his friends and was selfless and that's the guy he was."
