Panto team search for younger performers

DANCERS from Rotherham are being invited to try out for roles in this year’s Christmas pantomime at the Civic Theatre.

Jack and the Beanstalk will take to the stage in December, and auditions for the show’s junior chorus will be held at 4.30pm on Tuesday August 30.

Hopefuls must be between six and 11 years old – but no more than four feet eight inches tall.

A theatre spokesman said: “Good discipline is required, with training in ballet and modern, but, most importantly, they must be great entertainers.”

Theatre manager Mark Scott added: “The young performers who take part in the pantomime always have a great time and find the experience invaluable in their performing career.

“Hopefully this year’s luckily few will take the stage by storm.

“We’re looking for dedicated, but fun-loving, people who live for entertaining audiences.

“They’ll have to have great stamina as they’ll be dozens of performances over the six-week period, as well as having 100 per cent commitment to putting on a great show day after day.”

Staff at the Civic Theatre have also announced that there will be a “relaxed” performance of Jack and the Beanstalk, on Tuesday December 20 at 11am.

Councillor Mahroof Hussain said: “Relaxed performances are designed to provide a more comfortable experience for adults or children who may find it difficult to sit still and stay quiet for the full duration of a theatre performance, or who may feel uncomfortable when a show has a lot of flashing lights and noisy special effects.

“During relaxed performances, theatre staff won’t ask the audience to keep quiet and don’t mind if people move around.

“Extra lighting is provided during the performance and fewer special effects are used to create a calm and relaxed experience.”

The special “relaxed” performance will also be signed.

The panto will run from December 2 until January 8.
