Pantomime is tall order for Spa's festive theatre-goers

Upstaging Snow White might sound like a bit of a stretch but it was no tall order for performers warming up the audience before the curtain went up on the panto at Bridlington Spa yesterday.

Panto-goers were treated to a free outdoor performance of The Georgian Couple in the new space at the venue ahead of the first showing of Snow White and The Seven Dwarves.

The stilt-walking show was the first of many performances in the new space – created as part of the Spa Environs project which set out to improve the area around the award-winning Spa following its recent refurbishment.

The Georgian Couple is a walk-about stilt act which deals with the larger-than-life aristocratic Lord and Lady Pompous in period costume.

Spa general manager Andrew Aldis said: "It's exactly what I would like to see in the gardens at The Spa."

Towering 3ft above everyone else, the performers, Kirsty Shipley and Paul Sergiou, have been rehearsing for the last two months. Ms Shipley has an acting degree from Hull College while Mr Sergiou is currently a third year student on a degree course in musical theatre at the college.

Snow White will run at the Spa until Tuesday January 4. Tickets are priced from 8 to 17.50 and are available from the Spa's box office on (01262) 678258 or www.TheSpaBridlington.com.
