Parachutist plunges to death at East Yorkshire festival

Ryan Brown, 31, from Goole, suffered multiple injuries at the fundraising event at Bridlington Sports and Community Club.

Mr Brown took part in the parachute jump but landed badly, Humberside Police said.

Mr Brown was airlifted to Scarborough General Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Detective Sergeant Steve Shanks, of Bridlington CID, said: "Although there appears to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding Ryan's death, a thorough and full investigation will take place covering all the attendant circumstances and background to the incident. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

"Ryan's death at this stage appears to be a tragic accident. He was an experienced parachutist."

One witness told BBC News that the skydiver was part of a team performing stunts at the family event.

The crowd, which included many children, saw Mr Brown land badly during one of the manoeuvres.

The British Parachuting Association has opened an investigation into his death and representatives are due to visit the scene of the accident this week.
