Park centre to stage art exhibition

THE Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's National Park Centre in Malham is to stage an exhibition of abstract work by Skipton artist Susan Duffey.

The free exhibition, on the theme of Earth, will run until the end of August and comprises an 8ft wide impression of Malham Cove and five others of Gordale Scar.

Centre manager Chris Lancaster said: "This is the first time we have staged an exhibition at the Malham National Park Centre.

"I hope it will be an added reason to visit the centre and, if it proves to be popular, it could be the first of many by local artists."

After completing a four-year, part-time HND Fine Art course at Craven College, Ms Duffey went on a residential pastel course at Malham Tarn Field Centre.

she said: "We drew on site at Malham Cove and Gordale Scar and I was overcome by the grandeur of both these towering, monumental ancient limestone cliffs created by glacial erosion and meltwater.

"It was by working experimentally in different media that I was able to convey my experience of these beautiful locations.

"I am grateful to the National Park Authority for giving me the opportunity to share my recent work with such a wide audience."
