Park issues blazes warning

NATIONAL park chiefs have warned about the growing threat of moorland and forest fires as thousands of visitors get ready to descend on Yorkshire’s countryside over the Easter weekend.

Senior officials at the North York Moors National Park Authority claimed the dry spring weather has caused “tinderbox conditions” and increased the risk of blazes, prompting the warning for the public to remain vigilant.

Warning signs are being placed on moorland sites in the National Park advising people how they can help reduce the risk by avoiding lighting fires and not discarding cigarettes, matches or glass bottles.
