Parky seeks help to turn charity's playground dream into reality

SIR Michael Parkinson is asking for help to raise the final £36,000 needed to turn the dream of a multi-facility playground at Temple Newsam into reality.

He is patron of PhysCap, the Leeds-based children's charity, which has already raised 189,000 towards its target goal of 225,000 to build the playground.

The new play area will be built on the same site as, and replace the current playground at Temple Newsam, on land provided by Leeds City Council.

Sir Michael said: "In conjunction with Leeds City Council and the support of the MPs of Leeds, PhysCap are embarking on their biggest ever project.

"Thousands of children over many, many years, disabled or not, will ultimately benefit from PhysCap Park."

Daniel Gray, PhysCap chairman, said yesterday: "Despite the shortfall, building will commence in July and it is hoped that PhysCap Park will be opened in December."

PhysCap has come to the aid of many children in the region providing cash for equipment which makes a huge difference to their quality of life and that of their carers.

The charity aims to improve the quality of life for children suffering from severe physical disabilities, by purchasing specialised equipment.
