Party time to mark Bupa's great race

A PROGRAMME of entertainment is set to take place in Sheffield city centre next weekend to mark the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run.

The 10K road race, which follows a route from Arundel Gate to Hillsborough and back, takes place on the morning of Sunday, September 5.

To mark the occasion, FuelUp, the official pre-race party, will take place from 1pm the previous day, featuring live music, stilt walkers and appearances from elite athletes and celebrity guests.

Meanwhile, the Sheffield Bands on the Run music festival will also be held throughout the weekend, with bands playing in locations including Fargate, the Winter Garden, Barker's Pool, Tudor Square and the Peace Gardens.

Barnsley-born athlete John Mayock, project organiser for the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run, said: "We wanted to do something to say thank you to all the runners for their hard work and kick off the weekend in style.

"The aim of the Fuel Up event and the Sheffield Bands on the Run music festival is to get both the runners and the supporters to come and join in the various activities going on at the weekend, relax a little and just have fun."

As well as music taking place throughout the city centre, on the day of the race various musical acts will be stationed at different points around the course to entertain runners.
