Passengers escape bus fire in city centre
AN ELECTRIC bus had to be evacuated in York today after it caught fire.
Bus operator First York said about a dozen passengers were on the number nine park and ride service which was on Stonebow in the city centre when the fire broke out about 11.45am. No-one was injured in the incident. The company said the driver was alerted by a warning light and immediately stopped the vehicle in a safe location.
An investigation is underway and tests will be carried out on 11 other Optare Versa Electric Vehicles operated by the firm in York.
