Passengers’ views helping to fine-tune South Yorkshire bus services

TRANSPORT bosses in South Yorkshire have announced improvements to bus services in Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley following feedback from the bus-using public.

ideas for improving the network and making it easier to get
about.

In Sheffield, examples of changes brought about through public comments include:

• Running a duplicate A1 bus service to Meadowhall to ease overcrowding. This service is funded by the transport executive and TM Travel.

• Credit-card size timetables for more bus services.

In Doncaster, the changes include:

• Running the 87 bus service earlier on Saturdays, from 5am. The 87 bus service runs on the Doncaster-Wheatley -Edenthorpe -Dunscroft-Stainforth-Thorne- Moorends route and is operated by First.

• Smaller, credit card-sized timetables for more bus users.

Improvements have also been made in Barnsley, which include:

• Installing seats at Kexborough social club’s bus shelter.

• Smaller, credit card-sized timetables.

Staff handbooks for all South Yorkshire drivers have also been updated with information about children travelling as carers.

A spokesman for the transport body, which plans and delivers public transport, said: “Where possible, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive turns customer comments into direct actions and improvements.

“We actively encourage customer feedback on what is needed to make journeys even better.

“We have a commitment to put customers first.”

The transport executive’s
deputy interim director general, David Young, urged public transport users to make their views known.

“SYPTE has an ongoing commitment to put customers first by trying to make getting around by public transport easy, convenient and best suited to what people want and need.”
