Pc killer denied permission to appeal

A man jailed for life for the murder of police officer Sharon Beshenivsky has lost a bid to challenge his conviction.

Three judges in the Court of Appeal rejected an application by Mustaf Jama for permission to appeal. Lord Justice Moses, sitting in London with Mr Justice Maddison and Mrs Justice Nicola Davies, said there was “no basis” for it.

Jama fled to his native Somalia after taking part in a robbery of a travel agency in Bradford in which the officer was shot dead.

He was sentenced to life at Newcastle Crown Court in 2009 and told he would serve at least 35 years for the murder of the mother-of-three.

Jama was part of a gang that gunned down the popular officer, who lived in Keighley, and wounded her colleague, Pc Teresa Milburn, during the raid in November 2005.
