Pedestrian dies after being hit by tram

A PEDESTRIAN has died after being hit by a Supertram in Sheffield on Saturday afternoon.

It is thought that the 37-year-old man from Upperthorpe was crossing over Netherthorpe Road, a dual carriageway with a tramline in the centre, at about 3.10pm that afternoon.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said yesterday: “The man is thought to have been crossing the road and approached the central tram crossing facility at the same time as a tram moved toward the crossing towards Brook Hill roundabout. As the man ran over the crossing the tram’s nearside collided with him.”

The tram was being driven by a 38-year-old woman from Westfield.

Witnesses should call police on 0114 2202020.
