Pedestrian seriously injured in collision with lorry outside York petrol station

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a lorry outside a petrol station in York.

The crash happened at 1.10am this morning (Tuesday), when a white refrigerated lorry collided with a man outside the BP garage on Lawrence Street.

A 52-year-old man, from York, suffered serious injuries and police this morning said he remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The driver of the lorry, a 58 year-old man from York, was not hurt and has been assisting police with enquiries.

A road closure was put in place at the scene following the crash but reopened just before 6am.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

The pedestrian was wearing distinctive red trousers and had been on the same side of the road as the BP garage prior to the collision.
