Pensioner attacked in his home by intruder

A 78-year-old man needed hospital treatment after he was attacked by an intruder during a robbery at his West Yorkshire home.

The victim was confronted by the man who demanded cash after he got

into the house on Thackley Old Road, Shipley.

When the pensioner refused to hand over money, the intruder assaulted him before searching the house and fleeing with cash and a laptop computer.

The victim suffered a cut to his head following the attack, which happened between 6.45pm and 7.15pm on Wednesday.

Det Insp Ryan Bragg, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said: "This was a nasty attack on a vulnerable man in his own home, although fortunately such incidents are rare.

"We have been conducting extensive enquiries into this incident but would like to speak to any further witnesses who may have seen what happened or seen someone acting suspiciously outside the property."
