Pensioner dies in collision with van near Barnsley

A pensioner has died in a collision with a van in the village of Silkstone near Barnsley.

The 81-year-old man suffered a head injury and was given treatment at the scene on Barnsley Road but died of his injuries.

The incident occurred this morning at around 9.35am outside the Texaco Petrol Station as a silver Peugeot panel van was travelling in the direction of Hoylandswaine and the pensioner crossed the road.

The driver, a 39-year-old Barnsley man, was uninjured.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, the pedestrian or the manner in which the van was being driven prior to the collision is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police via 101 quoting incident number 221 of February 22 2016.
