A166 Stamford Bridge collision victim named by North Yorkshire Police

Police have named the 45-year-man who was killed when he was struck by a car in the village of Stamford Bridge, near York.

Simon David Gill died at the scene on the A166 between Stamford Bridge and Gate Helmsley just after 7pm on Friday October 16.

His family have revealed he had already suffered serious injuries in an accident earlier in his life and had recovered.

He was hit by a grey Fiat 500 while walking along the road.

A statement from his family read: “Simon was a much-loved son, brother and uncle. He overcame serious injuries to lead a happy life in Stamford Bridge. He loved his home and spent a lot of time in his garden which he was very proud of.

“He enjoyed having a chat with people from the village every morning and could often be found in the village cafes having coffee and cake.

“We will miss him terribly.”

North Yorkshire Police have issued an appeal for information and dashcam footage following the collision.

They have asked anyone who saw a man walking along the A166 between Stamford Bridge and Gate Helmsley, or who saw a small grey Fiat 500 travelling along the A166 either prior to the collision or anyone who witnessed the collision, to come forward. .
