Bumper yield for show

John Freer casts an expert eye over the geraniums as gardening fans enjoyed a horticulturally heavenly weekend at the 149th annual Leeds Flower, Vegetable and Crafts Show, which brought hundreds of growers and enthusiasts to the Grammar School At Leeds.

Keen growers – experts and amateurs alike – entered more than 300 classes with the finest flora and perfect produce over the two days of the event.

The Leeds Horticultural Society, which organises the event, said it had been another bumper year, and plans are already under way for next year’s milestone 150th anniversary show.

Chairman Viv Caunt said: “It’s been going very well. We certainly have some very keen members, and people who support us every year.”
