Inquest date set for North Yorkshire footballer, 29, who died in Norfolk Broads boating propeller accident

An inquest opened into the death of a young Selby man who was killed on a boating holiday in the Norfolk Broads has stated that he was fatally injured by the propeller of a craft.

Simon Alex Houlder, known as Sly, died on September 15 after the accident on the River Bure.

The hearing at Norfolk Coroner's Court heard that Simon, 29, from Bubwith near Selby, had been swimming in the water when he is thought to have caught his leg on the propeller of the hired boat.

The cause of death was given as a haemorrhage as a result of severe blood loss.

A full inquest into the circumstances of the incident has been scheduled for December 16.

He was airlifted to hospital by the Coastguard but later passed away.

Sly worked as a joiner and was a keen footballer who played for his local pub team, Bubwith White Swan, and had also been a member of North Duffield Cricket Club.

Friends have raised over £10,000 in the former Howden School and Selby College student's memory.
