Iron throne fails to seduce the Queen on visit to set

IT LOOKS rather more uncomfortable than any throne she may be used to sitting on, but the Queen resisted the urge to try the Iron Throne of Westeros for size on a visit to the Game Of Thrones set during a visit to Belfast yesterday.

Her majesty and the Duke the Edinburgh met the stars of the cult television series, filmed at a former shipyard, and were shown props including the coveted seat of power, said to be forged from 1,000 swords.

But it remained empty as the Queen joked about how uncomfortable it looked.

The royal couple’s landmark visit to Northern Ireland saw them tour the 19th century Crumlin Road Gaol with Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness, Stormont’s First and Deputy First Ministers - two of its former inmates.

And a teenager attempted to take a selfie in front of the monarch during a walk around St Georges Market.

The day also saw the Queen speak before dignitaries at City Hall, where spoke of the “positive transformation and of people overcoming differences.”

She went on to a garden party at Hillsborough Castle hosted by Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers.
