Claire Glatman has been named by Greek media as the victim of the accident at Avlaki beach on the island of Corfu.

Three young British nationals are reportedly under police investigation over her death.

She was on holiday at the family's second home with her husband, solicitor and property developer Mark Glatman, and one of their four children.

She was swimming in shallow water when she was struck by the boat and injured by its propeller.

Mrs Glatman was a trustee of the Bedale-based Church charity Hospital of St Michael the Archangel, and lived at the nearby village of Well.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held on Tuesday, with the Greek Coastguard saying her body 'bore obvious signs of being hit by a boat propeller'.

Greek press reports suggested the speedboat was pulling water skiers when it collided with Mrs Glatman.

The boat, apparently driven by one of the Britons held by port police, was later found abandoned at a marina on the other side of the island.

Local media said Mrs Glatman was popular on the island, and was described by a friend as 'a very good and genuinely nice person'.

Another wrote on Facebook: “She was an absolutely lovely woman. Very much loved on this island. Thoughts to the family.”
