The sports and performance car salesroom is part of a plan to take Heron Lakes, off the A1035 at Routh, to the “next level”, with a showroom “designed and fitted out to reflect the exclusivity of the vehicles we will sell”.

Documents submitted to East Riding Council state the holiday park is a "premium quality holiday lodge park that is focussed on the higher end of the holiday lodge market, with most customers spending in excess of £100,000."

They state that applicants, Coastline Leisure is seeking "to cross-promote both the holiday lodge sales/rentals and vehicle sales to the same customers".

A mission statement by JBS Performance Cars, which would run the showroom, adds: "We have the ability, tools and the passion to deliver supercars to discerning, affluent people.

"There is little or no competition in this area who offer the same.

"There is no one who can offer the viewing of these vehicles in such a stunning setting..We hope you see the potential of this proposal in bring the right type of people into our part of the Country."

But Tickton and Routh parish council believe car buyers would destroy the tranquillity of the lakeside retreat and test driving high performance cars would create "potentially dangerous" traffic conditions on a 50mph road and the nearby Leven bypass.

Apart from the parish council there has only been one objector who claims potential buyers won't stick to the speed limit as the cars are not designed "to go that slow and are driven by speed freaks".

Councillors are due to discuss the plans at a meeting on July 20.

The council's highways department have not objected, saying it is unlikely to have a detrimental impact on local roads.

But planning officials state that the plans "would create a destination in its own right, which in this remote location is not considered to be an acceptable form of development".

Heron Lakes had expanded rapidly in recent years, gaining planning permission two years ago for an extra 131 holiday lodges.
