Popular steps to the beach near Bridlington closed after landslide

Sewerby Steps, near Bridlington, have been closed after a "substantial" landslide.

East Riding Council said the area is cordoned off and contractors will clear the path as soon as it is safe to do so.

The path is part of a popular walk to Sewerby from Bridlington across the cliffs, with walkers going down the steps to return to Bridlington along the beach.

The steps, around 300 yards from Sewerby Hall, were closed last March because of two separate landslips.

Kirsty Salisbury, the council’s General Manager (Coastal), said : “This is all part of the natural erosion process, but the council are looking at ways to minimise the frequency of the steps becoming inaccessible.

“Please do not use these steps until the debris has been removed.”
