Watch moment Leeds man who beat 5% survival chance from coronavirus returns home to family

This is the emotional moment a Leeds man who was given just a 5% chance of survival from coronavirus returned home to his family.

Chris Lazar, 44, spent eight weeks - including five weeks hooked up to a ventilator in intensive care - at St James's Hospital in Leeds after testing positive for coronavirus.

Chris, a quality control inspector from Swinnow, was given just a 5% chance of survival - with his family repeatedly told his life may not last for another hour.

However, Chris has defied all of the odds to return home on Friday to his loving family, who clapped his entrance wearing a shirt thanking the NHS.

Chris' rehabilitation journey began two weeks ago.

His wife Sarah Lazar said she couldn't thank the NHS staff enough.

In a Facebook post, Sarah said: "He has finally been discharged and returned home today.

"Thanks for all the amazing care received from both wards at St James and most of all, for saving the life of Chris."

Chris will now continue his rehabilitation at home.
