West Yorkshire teacher stuck in China lockdown for four months due to coronavirus as fundraiser launched to fly home

A fundraiser has been launched for a West Yorkshire teacher who has been stuck in lockdown in China for more than four months.

Alex Jeffery, 26, moved to China last year in August to pursue a new career in teaching children.

However, due to the coronavirus outbreak in Beijing where he is located, Alex has been on lockdown in his apartment for four months - since January 17.

Alex - from Bingley - is currently only working six days a month and can't afford his flight back to the UK, his friend Sam Cowley told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Sam has now launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe for his friend.

He said: "Given that Alex only works 6 days a month, he can't afford for his flight back to the UK let alone just getting by with food and necessities for himself.

"Any help towards getting Alex back to the UK so he can self isolate with his family would be greatly appreciated."

More than £800 has been raised towards a £1,000 target in just one day.
