'Petty' council sends demand for £0.00

A DRIVER who fought and won an appeal against a parking ticket has branded officials "petty" for sending her a letter demanding "£0.00".

Anne Augustyns was issued with a fine of 25 when her ticket blew off her dashboard in a council-run car park in Hull.

She sent Hull Council the ticket as proof of purchase.

Both an informal and formal internal tribunal decided the council was in the right and the fine was doubled to 50.

But the 54-year-old, from east Hull, appealed to the independent Traffic Penalty Tribunal, which found in her favour.

She then, however, got a letter from the council saying she owed them "0.00."

Mrs Augustyns said she was pretty disgusted. "The council has been very petty."

The letter from Hull Council said the tribunal decision did not mean the council agreed with the arguments put forward, "just that the outstanding charge has been reduced to 0.00p."

Head of Streetscene services Trish Dalby said the charge should have been cancelled and the council would apologise.
