Pews just in... cathedral to sell seating for £5m revamp

WAKEFIELD Cathedral is to sell off its Victorian oak pews to raise funds for its £5m redevelopment project.

They were designed by Victorian architect George Gilbert Scott who produced the pews for Wakefield which were installed in 1874 when the cathedral last underwent renewal.

Cash raised will go towards a major restoration project, due to get under way shortly, which will see the nave transformed with improved lighting, flooring, heating and the pews will be taken out to create a more flexible open space.

Pew prices start at £150. To find out more visit the website on www.wakefield-cathedral.org.uk or email [email protected]
