Phone thief caught red handed at cricket ground

An off-duty policeman who was playing cricket made a great catch – after arresting a man who stole a phone from the pavilion.

Pc Ian Wisniewski, who was playing for Cleeve Cricket Club, near Bristol, was told by a team-mate that a man had been seen lurking by the changing rooms.

When a mobile phone went missing, the officer rang up nearby Claverham Cricket Club to warn them of any suspicious activity. Thief Anthony Brimble was then spotted near their changing rooms, so Pc Wisniewski headed to the ground.

After a struggle the policeman arrested the 39-year-old and officers found the missing mobile in his car. Brimble, who admitted theft, was given a 12-month community order.
