Photograph albums left at Oxfam sell for £14,000

A pair of rare photo albums left in a charity shop sold for £14,000 yesterday.

The 19th century albums, containing photos of Argentina, were discovered by Caroline Ingram who volunteers at the Oxfam shop in Jesmond, Newcastle.

The books, which were expected to sell for 5,000, were bought by an anonymous bidder, with all the proceeds going to the charity. The pictures, taken by French photographer Esteban Gonnet, were sold by London auction house Christie’s.
