Photograph celebrates academy's ethos

YOUNGSTERS aged from three to 18 are encouraged to look out for each other at Bradford Academy.

There are 1,100 pupils from an multi-ethnic and socially deprived area of south-east Bradford at the Christian-sponsored academy including more than 200 in post-16 studies.

Academic improvements have seen around half of youngsters attaining five A*-C GCSEs compared with just eight per cent at Bradford Cathedral City College which previously occupied the site of the academy which opened in 2007.

Tehmina Hashmi, vice-principal on co-developing the new prospectus, said: "As an academy, we wanted to reassure parents and the community that we are about traditional values, high quality and success – but without the constraints that state schools can sometimes impose. We do things differently only if it makes a difference."

Leah Newby, head of education at Words&Pictures, said: "Bradford Academy has a rigorously professional approach to the task of education combined with a real attention to detail.
