Photographers’ ‘unique’ take on the East Riding

Hundreds of images have been entered into a photographic competition celebrating the East Riding’s unique identity.

One picture looks across mediaeval meanders on the river Hull across to Beverley Minster in the distance, another captures a farmer ploughing close to the clifftops at Flamborough.

Others focus on last winter’s thick snow, beautiful sunsets and the wildlife that abounds in the area, hares and owls.

Others look at the day to day: the vegetable stands that crop up in villages, and “always have the best veg.”

More than 700 images have been entered into the competition, which is being judged on Friday. The top 100 will be included in an exhibition at Beverley Art Gallery next year.

Hilary Saynor, chair of the East Riding Cultural Partnership, which organised the competition, said: “Over 180 people were inspired to enter the competition and we have been impressed by the standard of their entries. Participants have shown us the people, places and events that make their communities different and interesting.

“Their photos, together as a collection, demonstrate that the East Riding clearly has much to offer as a place to live and visit.”
