She had her first ectopic pregnancy at 18 and major surgery soon after meant that her left fallopian tube was removed, and a year later she had her first miscarriage.

Julie, now 33, and IT project manager Phil, 40, who got together in 2004, decided to try again for children in 2008.

They had twins on December 31 2009 following IVF treatment.

The Whites, of Halifax, decided to take their children to nearby Kyte Photography to have their pictures taken when Darcy and Noah were aged 10 months.

The photo was picked as the best entry from across the UK and Kyte Photography picked up the prestige of the UK “cherub of the year” competition, run by the Master Photographers’ Association.

Proud mum Julie said the money was going to her sons.

“Their faces won it so it’s only fair they have it for the future. The money will be splt equally and go into a trust for them; it’s their money, I could never justify spending it.”

Studio owner and master photographer Jennifer Robertson said: “To be recognised at a national level is a great honour.

“And to win £10,000 for a family who have been through so much is even more rewarding.”
