Pictures telling thousands of words to be sold
Mark Gerson, 89, has shot the biggest names in 20th century literature during his 40-year career.
One of his iconic images being sold at Bonhams on November 23 shows a scene from a cocktail party held by publishers Faber & Faber in 1960, in which guest of honour WH Auden is surrounded by fellow poets – including a young Ted Hughes.
The sale also includes photographs of Dame Edith Sitwell, wroters Roald Dahl, Evelyn Waugh, William Golding, Walter de la Mare, John Osborne, Salman Rushdie and American author James Baldwin.
