Places snapped up for walks tribute to Jane

ONLY a few hundred places are now left for the inaugural Walk For All Festival, with the Tomlinson family saying it means they are set to realise their dream of creating an annual event in Jane’s memory in the Yorkshire Dales.

Mike Tomlinson, who has organised this summer’s festival around Settle in the countryside he and Jane used to explore, says 1,600 places have gone with less than 600 left.

The huge take-up from walkers has left the Tomlinson family stunned and Mike says he is already putting dates in the diary to hold the event next year.

“To get to 1,600 with nearly two months still to go is absolutely brilliant,” he said.

“It has brought together people from all ages and abilities from so many different places – people wanted something a bit different from just doing our runs and this has provided the perfect opportunity.

“We are already looking at dates for 2012.”

The event, on August 14, features three routes, covering 26 miles, 14 miles and a five-mile option beginning and ending in Settle.

The event also includes a four-and-a-half-mile route suitable for people in wheelchairs.

It was launched on March 22, when Northern Rail unveiled a train named in Jane’s honour.
