Plans for new £3m lifeboat station revealed

A new Art Deco-style building will be built in Bridlington in place of the RNLI’s aging station on South Marine Drive.

The site on Spa Promenade between the Spa and the pumping station will mean the lifeboat won’t have to be taken across the road to reach the sea, cutting launch times.

It will also have the extra space needed to house the new Shannon class all-weather lifeboat and launching vehicle, which will replace the current lifeboat by 2018.

As well as modern training and changing facilities for the volunteer crew and a mechanic’s workshop, the station will include a shop and viewing area so the public can see the lifeboat.

Michael Oakes, RNLI Divisional Operations Manager, said: “The RNLI has been working closely with the council and other organisations to ensure our new lifeboat station will be an asset for Bridlington’s sea front. It will allow us to consolidate all our lifesaving services in one building, making for a more efficient operation, and will provide the much-improved facilities that our volunteer crew deserve.”

The plans have been submitted to East Riding Council.
